WhatsApp now lets you Group Call eight people for first time ever – scrapping old limit
WHATSAPP will let you make group calls to eight people for the first time ever.
It means the old four-person limit has been scrapped as WhatsApp faces growing competition from rivals.
Video calling apps like Zoom, Houseparty and Apple's FaceTime have also seen a surge in usage.
But WhatsApp has lagged behind all of these apps in terms of its maximum group call limit.
For instance, Apple's FaceTime lets you make a join call with 32 people.
And Zoom lets you video-conference with hundreds of people at a time.
But the change has gone live for beta versions of WhatsApp on both iOS and Android, which is encouraging.
It's impossible to say how long it will take for the feature to arrive on the general release WhatsApp app.
It could be days, weeks or even months – though a quick release seems likely.
If you want to try the feature out early, you can sign up for WhatsApp's test app.
