Top Apple leaker reveals new ‘iPhone 12’ design a YEAR before potential release

TOP secret designs for Apple's next smartphone may have been posted online.

A prominent tech blogger who regularly leaks Apple news has mocked up the design for the rumoured iPhone 12.

The 3D render isn't an official Apple image, and doesn't necessarily represent Apple's plans.

But reputable gadget blogger said it's "what we will most likely get next year" – referring to a 2020 launch.

The mock-up reflects a number of leaks and predictions from analysts for Apple's 2020 iPhone.

And it's got a few key changes that Apple fans will love.

Although it might look like just another iPhone, Geskin's design is very different in several important ways.

For a start, there's no notch on the front of the display.

Ever since 2017's iPhone X, Apple has had a small notch that juts into the top of the screen.

It houses the selfie camera and scanners for the Face ID unlocking system, allowing Apple to have a nearly all-screen front.

But Android rivals are increasingly doing away with the notch, so it's possible Apple will follow suit.

One option is to shrink the size of the sensors down so that they fit in a very small strip of bezel surrounding the display.

Another solution is to embed the camera and sensors below the display, although this is costly and difficult.

The rear of the phone hasn't changed significantly, save for the addition of an additional camera sensor.

You can see it just below the main right lens, opposite the flash.

It's possible that this is a Time of Flight sensor, which could be used to improve depth-sensing.

This can give your photography a boost, and make augmented reality apps work more accurately.

Apple could move to a more industrial iPhone design, like we saw with the iPhone 4

Another key change is the framing of the device – it's got squared-off metal edging.

Ever since the iPhone 6, Apple has used smooth and curved edges.

But previous phones like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 had had square edges, which proved very popular with fans.

Many are hoping Apple will return to this more industrial design style with the iPhone 12.

The bad news is that Apple hasn't confirmed any of these changes, and likely won't until September 2020.

Apple always keeps its smartphone designs top secret until the last moment.

However, we can expect more convincing leaks to emerge as the 2020 launch date draws closer.

It's possible that the real iPhone 12 could look very different from Geskin's design, so don't get too excited.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you're due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you're down to 80% capacity. If you're below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier

In other news, you can get a free pair of Apple Airpods when you buy an iPhone 11 from Carphone Warehouse.
