Cheap GHD straighteners: our guide to where to find every hairstylist’s favourite straightener

UK-BASED hair styling brand GHD has been revolutionising heat styling since it first launched its now-cult straightening iron in salons in 2001, and we're here to help you find a cheap GHD straightener.

From its OG straightener, the GHD IV Styler, to the brand’s latest launch, the Oracle (a pro curler that works just like a straightener), GHD has teamed innovative technology and materials with user-friendly designs.

The stylers heat up faster, work quicker and leave hair looking better than the competition’s.

To save you some dosh, we’ve rounded up the best sales and deals you can find on GHD straighteners online.

One of the main things that sets GHD stylers apart from other straighteners on the market is that while most stylers heat up to 230 degrees Celsius, GHDs remain at that sweet spot of 185 degrees Celsius - a temperature that stays constant as you style from root to tip, leaving hair silky, shiny and smooth - without destroying it in the process.

The truth is, any GHD model you pick is going to be a good one. If you’re looking for a cheap GHD straightener, then your best bet is to get the original IV styler, which you can find online for less than £90.

The is always worth checking in on of course, as is and (as always) .

The cheapest GHD straighteners by style

GHD is a leader in heat styling innovation, so it's no surprise that each new GHD styler release is more hotly anticipated than the last.

Here are the top GHD straightener models and the cheapest prices you can find them online.

Cheap GHD Original IV Professional Styler

GHD Original IV Professional Styler

GHD Original IV Professional Styler, £109 at Amazon -

The original bestselling model, this straightener allows you to style your hair sleek or wavy, has a 30-second heat-up and floating ceramic plates that pass easily through the hair.

This classic option gives you the power of the cult GHD straightener with a cheaper price tag than the newer models - but there's a reason this is the styler that started off the trend - it does the job and it does it well.

Cheap GHD Max Professional Styler

Designed to handle long, thick hair, the GHD Max has two-inch wide ceramic floating plates for easy styling.

The larger plates mean that those with longer hair can style their locks at a quicker pace than the thinner plates on the original styler.

This option is also good for looser curls and waves.

We tested: Cheap GHD Platinum+ Styler

6
  • GHD Platinum+ Styler, £219 from Amazon -

At full price, the GHD Platinum+ Stylers are their most expensive straighteners for £219.

Why are they so pricey? Well, the GHD Platinum+s are cleverly built with infinity sensors which monitor the heat 250 times a second across the plates and adapt the tool to suit your hair as you style it.

As they adjust according to hair type, they're never too harsh on the hair, promising to leave it stronger, shinier and more protected from colour.

We tested them out to see whether they're really worth the higher price point, and whether they really feel any different to ordinary straighteners...

First of all, they instantly helped combat frizz, only needing one glide over each section of our hair to straighten it, reducing our getting-ready time (love that).

Equipped with thick frames, you don't feel worried about burning yourself, especially as the silver wishbone hinge also gives you more control of the plates.

Our favourite part was waking up the day after using them because the results looked even better! We aren't sure if our tresses were particularly much more shiny though, but the hair felt stronger than it usually does after being straightened and the results lasted a whole two days after styling.

Which are the best GHD straighteners?

When we're having a bad hair day, the first place we turn to is out trusty GHDs.

Leading the way in haircare innovation, we would recommend investing in the GHD Max Professional Styler.

Designed to handle long, luscious hair, it is really easy to use for styling.

And the GHD original IV Professional Styler for under £100 is worth it if you're strapped for cash.

What's the difference between GHD platinum and gold?

The new GHD Gold has dual-zone technology, with two styler features.

This essentially means the straightener has better control over the way it heats your hair.

And it only takes 25 seconds to heat to its full potential.

There's no doubt GHD platinum is the best in the business with ultra-zone, predictive technology, 2.7m swivel cord for convenient styling and 185 degree temperature.

But it's still rather pricey and is very different from older GHD models.

You can find all the differences between the various GHD straighteners .

How long do GHD straighteners last?

If you look after them, they can last for over ten years.

And if you have any problems, GHD has a two year warranty meaning that you can take it back to the shops with the receipt and they'll change it for you.

Do GHD straighteners turn themselves off?

Fortunately, GHDs now have sleep mode, an important safety feature found in all stylers.

Your GHD styler will automatically switch itself off after 30 minutes without use.

The styler will bleep to let you know it is in sleep mode.

If you want to heat it back up again, simply turn it on and off.

How much are GHD straighteners?

GHD straighteners vary in price, depending on the model you choose and offers on at authorised retailers.

At present, you can nab a pair for as cheap as £92.70 - but the more premium models, such as the GHD Platinum plus will set you back £170.

However, the new GHD Unplugged styler, which features a clever cordless design, is hitting stores on July 15 and costs £299.

Where can I buy cheap GHD straighteners?

Always buy your GHDs from an authorised GHD retailer.

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is - and there are plenty of fake GHD stylers listed for sale across the web. It's important to be careful when purchasing, as cheap, fakes can be extremely dangerous, won't be covered by a GHD warranty and could even blow-up and cause a hazard around the home.

For cheap, authentic devices, check out the authorised retailer list on the GHD website. Toni & Guy currently have the - so this is a great price.

Tesco do not currently list GHD Stylers for sale on its website.

However, the supermarket does offer alternative hair straighteners and stylers - including ones from Babyliss and Remington.

There are also great deals on these devices for Clubcard users - including a Babyliss 2597U Super Smooth Wide 235 Straightener for £32, instead of £60.
