Danny Boyle confirms third instalment of classic zombie saga 28 Days Later is in the works
LEGENDARY director Danny Boyle has revealed he is working on a third instalment of the 28 Days Later zombie horror saga.
The Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire filmmaker let it slip in an interview that the thriller is being developed with the help of Ex Machina writer Alex Garland.
Following the smash success of 28 Days Later in 2002 and its sequel 28 Weeks Later in 2007, the visionaries previously hinted that the next chapter is due.
But Boyle has now confirmed he had talks with Garland about giving fans another blood-soaked flick that sees undead hoards terrorising human survivors.
It’s rumoured the third instalment will be called 28 Months Later, which could leave room for a fourth film – 28 Years Later.
Speaking to the , Boyle said: “Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part. It’s properly good.”

“The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that.
“It doesn’t feel stale at all. He’s concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really.”
In 2015 Garland, who wrote the original, said the pair were taking plans for a third film “seriously”.
He told : “We’ve got an idea. Danny and [producer] Andrew [Mcdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it’s a possibility. It’s complicated.

“It’s more likely to be 28 Months Later than 28 Years.
“28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the p*ss.”
The UK-set zombie saga kicked off with the first instalment in 2002, starring actor Cillian Murphy.
It opens with his character Jim waking up from a coma to a London ravaged by the “rage virus” in scenes that reignited interest in undead horror.
Over 93 nail-biting minutes it follows Jim as he teams up with Naomi Harris and battles to survive the immediate aftermath of the outbreak.
28 Days Later remains of the most the memorable British horror movies in the recent years and has stood the test of time.
It was followed by the equally well received 28 Weeks Later with a cast that included Idris Elba and Jeremy Renner.
Set about six months after the outbreak, it sees Britain shut off from the rest of the world as it struggles to stop the remaining population getting infected.
