Luxury Porsche sports cars among 2,000 vehicles at the bottom of the ocean after cargo ship sinks

It is unknown how many of the £221,000 vehicles were on board the ship that caught fire and capsized but the German manufacturer has given its customers some welcome reassurance

PORSCHE sports cars worth £220,000 a pop are now sitting somewhere on the bottom of the ocean after a cargo ship sank.

The luxury 911 GT2 RS models were among 2,000 expensive motors lost when the vessel caught fire off the coast of France.

The ship named Grande America had 27 people on board when it caught fire and capsized last week but luckily they all escaped unharmed.

But it wasn't great news for customers in Brazil who were waiting for their brand new wheels.

Joining the £221,532 Porsche cars on the seabed were Audi models A3, A5, Q7, RS4, and RS5.

It was a kick in the teeth for the buyers who had exclusively purchased the cars knowing Porsche had put the GT2 RS out of production.

But with their misfortune comes good news for motor lovers - as the company has now revealed it will resume manufacturing the model.

That will be to replace the models now lining the bottom of the Atlantic - but who knows, maybe there'll be some back on the market?

Although for over £200k, you might be better off dusting off your scuba gear or hiring a submarine.

Porsche have failed to make a statement since the incident and it is unknown how many of their cars were lost out at sea.

But in a letter sent to customers and published by the German manufacturer revealed the accident.

The translated letter said: "We are sorry to inform you that, due to a fire, a Grimaldi group ship, that was transporting your vehicle, sank on March 12, 2019. And for that reason, your GT2 RS can not be delivered."

It said the car will be produced in April and delivery is now scheduled for June.

The 911 GT2 RSes remains the most powerful 911 model ever, can reach 0-60 in a staggering 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph.
