FANS of The Walking Dead will soon be glued to their screens after Netflix released the trailer of new zombie apocalypse series Black Summer.

Only the dramatic Syfy show is braced to be even scarier, more chaotic and hair-raising than the zombie favourite.

American actress Jaime King plays Rose, a mum who gets separated from her daughter as the zombies begin to take over.

Along with a group of other survivors, they head into the unknown in search of her daughter where terrifying dangers hide just around the corner.

Ruthless decisions and sacrifices at the hands of the zombies must be made in order for Rose to see her daughter again.

While The Walking Dead tells the story of a world during the zombie apocalypse, Black Summer differs as it begins with the outbreak.

It follows the story of Rose who goes in search of her daughter

The show - which is a prequel to Syfy's recently cancelled Z Nation - gives the impression of the unknown and frenzy as the country descends into mass panic.

Jodi Binstock, one of the producers of Black Summer, reveals how they wanted to portray the apocalypse through the eyes of one person.

She told : "Black Summer is referred to in Z Nation as the summer where everything went to hell, so that is where Black Summer picks up.

"This show is not tongue-in-cheek, it's very, very serious: it's as if the zombie apocalypse really happened in 2018 and explores what that would be for all of us. It's a very unique style that I think people will really respond to.

The eight part series is set for release on April 11

"It's only told from the point of view of the characters - we don't learn anything that the characters don't and it's fantastically shot. The dynamics of the way that they have crafted the storytelling is very cinematic and I think people will really respond to it."

Netflix unveiled the gripping trailer yesterday and fans are already counting down the days until the release on April 11.

One said: "I don't think I'm going to get any work done this April."

Another added: "This looks much better than whatever The Walking Dead is doing right now."
