Here are 10 ways to make this Singles’ Day better than Valentine’s Day
SINGLES’ Day is celebrated on 11th November. It’s a day for all of the single pringles and solo polos to have their moment.
Today is National Singles’ Day.

If you’re self-partnered, flying solo, romantically challenged or single by choice, Singles’ Day is your time to shine.
The day started in the 1990s, supposedly set up by bachelor students at China’s Nanjing University as an anti-Valentine’s day.
The idea is to celebrate, rather than commiserate, not being in a romantic entanglement.
The date of 11/11 was specifically chosen as the four 1s represent four singletons standing together.

It also looks like bare branches, which is a popular Chinese term for describing single individuals.
So, while Valentine’s Day is a mad mix of extortionately priced roses, impossible-to-get dinner reservations and immense pressure to make it the most romantic day of the year, what can Singles’ Day be?
The answer: anything you want it to be.
That’s the beauty of the day. With only you making the decisions, you can spend the day doing exactly whatever you want, whenever you like.

Carving out quality time for friends can be hard work.
Reach out to buddies who you haven’t spoken with in a while and catch up!

Be at one with nature
Check out your local nature hot spot. It’s so easy to not appreciate your surroundings, especially when you’re with other people and busy chatting.
Take a solo walk to somewhere beautiful, stand still and simply observe the natural world around you.
Try focusing on the senses; what can you see, hear, smell and touch.
MEET OUR 10/10 CHAT HOST KIMMY
We haven’t forgotten that taste is a sense, we just don’t recommend tasting nature…
Treat yourself
Self-care should be practised as much as possible!
If you’re someone who’s been neglecting it, this is a good day to stop that and start pampering the number one in your life.
It’s not necessarily about doing something extravagant, it’s about taking the time to listen to yourself: what do you need in that moment?
WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE GOGGLEBOX FAMILY?
Is it to go out? A tasty treat? A sit down on the sofa wrapped in a blanket?
Whatever you need, make sure to indulge it. A treat from you to you, with love.
Spa Day
Book yourself in for a massage, use of spa facilities or complete pamper day.
Relax, unwind and breathe.
MAKE A GAME OF PLAY-ALONG CORRIE BINGO
You can recreate that spa experience at home, with a deep bath, good book, candles and calming music.
Takeaway / meal out
Dining out as a party of one can be an empowering way to spend Singles’ Day.
You pick the restaurant, order exactly what you want and you aren’t surrounded by loved up Valentine's Day couples.
NEED A SUNNY BOOK RECOMMENDATION?
If dining alone isn’t for you, make sure to order a takeaway.
Put a twist on your usual takeaway choice by adding a new dish or try somewhere new entirely.
Don’t go small just because you’re a solo order, most takeaways will keep for lunch the next day!
Go to the cinema / theatre
A bit like dining alone, a ticket for one to the theatre or cinema could seem daunting.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE SUNNY JOKES?
They are social events normally associated with a couple or group.
However, once the film or performance begins, it’s actually the perfect solo event.
You shouldn’t be talking to anyone anyway, it’s much easier to find a seat for one than a bigger group and you can focus solely on the show (with the added bonus of your choice of snacks).
This is a great time to see that show that no one else in your life has seemed bothered to see.
