Sun Bingo wants to know – which Gogglebox family is your favourite?
IF you could time travel to 2012 and say to someone that next year a new TV show would air that involved watching people watch TV shows… They probably would’ve looked at you as if you were mad.
However, 2013 saw the launch of Gogglebox. The idea was to create a show that was a mix of Harry Hill’s TV Burp and The Royle Family.
Hence, why the voice-over work has always been done by The Royle Family stars – first Caroline Aherne and then Craig Cash.
*
The show was an instant success. It’s spawned numerous spinoffs: Gogglesprogs, Vlogglebox and Celebrity Gogglebox as well as having had 15 international versions.
There have been many Gogglebox families since its launch, and they all have a special place in our hearts.
However, we all secretly have a favourite and Sun Bingo would like to know yours! It might be…
Giles and Mary
Nutty by name, nutty by nature. The couple joined in 2015 as part of series five and have brought their unique sense of earnest commentary on the absurd ever since.
The couple’s nickname for each other perfectly sums up their wacky ways – from an armchair that matches the wallpaper to Giles seeming to sometimes not know fundamental facts about his wife, despite over 30 years of marriage.
As well as his talent as an artist in real life, Giles also has a gift for annoying his wife.
Mary frequently seems exasperated by him, and yet the pair clearly share a strong loving bond that makes it a joy to watch them spend time together, even if it’s just watching telly.

The Malone family
There’s a chaotic energy to this household that’s fascinating to behold.
Whether the mischief is caused by the family’s beloved Rottweilers, expanding brood of grandchildren or the random introduction of yet another child of Tom and Julie whose existence has never previously been mentioned, this family’s lives is a show in itself.
You might think that they’re Gogglebox OGs, but actually they joined in 2014 as part of series four.
It’s known that Gogglebox producers prefer to scout for families or have them be recommended.
For this Manchester brood it was a combination of the two. Julie and Tom Jnr were working at a dance studio when the show rang the owner to ask for recommendations of good families. The Malones were put forward.
Apparently, Tom Snr was initially reluctant to do the show. However, we’re all glad that he changed his mind as his array of reaction faces summarises the feelings of viewers perfectly!
Pete and Sophie
Never before have the complexities of sibling relationships been more accurately captured on telly than through Pete and Sophie’s bond.
Their blend of laughing together, crying together and occasional attempts at physical violence is something every brother and sister across the globe can relate to.
Their one-liners and lightning-fast ability to banter have made them solid Gogglebox MVPs.
It’s no wonder they work so well together when sibling dynamic duos run in the family; their great uncles are none other than the Chuckle Brothers!
However, it’s not that that caught the producers’ eyes, but rather Pete and Sophie’s starring roles in Talk Talk’s "This Stuff Matters" campaign.
It would also be criminal not to give a shout out to their excellent novelty mug game!
