Get into the Cheltenham Festival spirit with Sun Vegas’ horse slots
GIDDY up, it's time for another Keep up with Katrina!
With Cheltenham Festival 2024 underway, I got into the spirit by trying my luck on the horse-themed slots of Sun Vegas.
*
Did I fall foal of the slots? Was this week’s Keep up with Katrina a complete mare? Did I gallop off into the sunset with my winnings?
Let’s see how I got on!
Cheltenham: Sporting Legends
- £2 spent
- 4p won
I trotted over to my first slot. Cheltenham: Sporting Legends seemed like a very appropriate game to start this horse-themed edition.
With the weekly jackpot stood at over £3,100, this slot is a great way to enjoy the Cheltenham atmosphere even if you can't be there in person.
WE HAVE QUIZZES EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY WITH GOLD CHIP PRIZES
While I didn’t have as much success as Paul Townend and Galopin des Champs, I did win 4p on one of my 20p stakes.
That was thanks to a winning pattern of three yellow and green helmets.
Mustang Gold
- £2 spent
- £1.95 won
Clicking onto this slot, a pop up let me know about “Drops & Wins”.
There’s two parts to this promotion: the tournament and the prize drops.
There’s a chance to win up to 10,000 x your bet if you take part in the tournament, with 1500 cash prizes up for grabs.

The prize drops run daily and can be triggered by a bet of any stake value.
The estimated daily prize pool is £9,000! The image icon for this slot features two horses, who must have a better haircare routine than me, as their manes are seriously luscious!
After four bets at 25p and two bets at 50p, I walked away with £1.95.
Bronco Spirit
- £2.50 spent
- 49p won
This slot is a little unusual in that it accumulates the wilds that you collect over nine spins, and randomly places them on the board on your 10th spin (up to a maximum of 20 wilds).
So, I’d recommend allowing 10 spins on this game, if you can budget for it.

There’s a minimum spend of 25p per spin, so that would be £2.50 spent on this slot.
However, the slot will remember how far through the 10 spin cycle you were, if you close the game and reload it.
The cycles also are tied to your bet amount, so if you play five spins at 25p but then change to a 50p stake, this is spin one, not spin six, of the cycle.
The wilds are a cool looking gold coin with a horse’s head stamp. By my 10th spin, I had four wilds and collected 43p as they formed a winning formation with two diamonds on the board.
Past the Post Jackpot
- £1.50 spent
- no winnings
It had felt like I was building up to a canter with my winnings pot.
However, I seemed to fall at the penultimate hurdle as this game didn’t add any winnings.
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY THIS POPULAR CARD GAME?
Despite three games, one at £1 and two at 25p, today wasn’t my day at the races.
That being said, shout out to the cool graphics of this slot. It definitely looks the most fun of the horse slots that I played.
There’s a sort of cartoonish feel, with glimpses of a race course around the edges of the paddock where the game board stands.
There’s a great mix of emotions on the faces of the game symbols, from hysterically laughing horses to stunned spectators with binoculars, and a glorious bottle of winner’s champagne being opened.

The Prancing Pony
- £2 spent
- £1.50 won
I still managed a sprint finish in the home straight.
This game was another example of a slot that technically didn’t belong in this week’s theme, but slipped through the net (yes, it’s happened before, and probably will again).
Tolkien fans know that the Prancing Pony is the name of a pub in Lord of the Rings, and that seems to have been the theme in mind for this slot.
The setting is a tavern and the game symbols look questionably like Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf and Boromir (in my opinion).

It was a pretty good slot for my prize pot, with wins on three of my five spins.
This also included triggering the Jackpot Respins feature. Five of the jackpot symbols appeared on the reels of one of my 20p spins.
This meant that my jackpot symbols stayed put and a money ladder appeared to the side of the screen.
I got three respins and started on the fifth ring of the ladder (as that’s how many jackpot symbols I had).
If you spin in additional jackpot symbols during these respins (which I did), the counter resets and you get ANOTHER three respins, moving up the ladder by as many rings as additional jackpot symbols get spun in.

The feature ends when you play three respins with no new jackpot symbols appearing or the reels become completely covered by jackpot symbols.
Your cash prize depends on how far up the cash ladder you managed to climb.
How much could you win?
My total game play for this session was 30 minutes, which worked perfectly for me as I couldn’t commit to a longer session this week.
That’s where the quick and easy-to-play format of slot games can be more convenient than traditional bingo games.
It was also exciting to play some of the unusual features of the games, like the 10-spin cycle on Bronco Spirit and the respin feature of Prancing Pony.
With £3.98 from the horse-themed slots in my pocket, I have my eye on a little gift from me to me:
- Gold-plated horse hoop earrings for £3.81
