SERENA WILLIAMS gave a whole new meaning to ‘mumsnet’ as she swept into her first Grand Slam final since having a kid.
But for once everyone is talking about Serena and not baby Olympia as the seven-times champion will make history in her bid for an eighth Ladies Singles title.
Williams, 36, is the lowest ranked player to ever reach a Wimbledon final after more than a year months out of the game on maternity leave.
But she looked like she had never been away as she crushed Germany’s Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour on Centre Court.
Williams will face Goerges’ compatriot Angelique Kerber for the title on Saturday and is red-hot favourite to take the crown despite facing the 11th seed.
Williams said: “It’s crazy. I didn’t expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back. But it seems that when I don’t have anything to lose I can play so free.
“I had a tough delivery - multiple surgeries - and almost didn’t make it. I couldn’t even walk to my mailbox so I’m just enjoying every moment.”
Goerges has now played Williams four times and failed to take a set in any of those one-sided encounters.
She won’t get a better chance than this but simply could not match her opponent in any department.
Williams and Kerber meet in a repeat of the 2016 final which ended in a seventh title for the American.
Williams said: “We played each other in the final last time. She has been going really well in the draw and this is good motivation for me.”
