Andy Murray is a ‘proud little brother’ after sibling Jamie and partner Martina Hingis win US Open mixed doubles title

ANDY MURRAY was a “proud little brother” after watching sibling Jamie win the US Open mixed doubles title.

The older Murray, 31, claimed his fifth Grand Slam crown as he and partner Martina Hingis beat Michael Venus and Chan Hao-ching 6-1 4-6 10-8 in New York.

It was the second successive title for the undefeated pair who also lifted the Wimbledon trophy two months ago.

And former singles world No 1 Andy, who was forced to sit out the year’s final major with a back injury, was watching on from home.

The 30-year-old toasted the victory on Facebook as he posted a picture of Jamie celebrating on his TV, writing: “Proud little brother…”

While mum Judy wrote on Twitter: "Having a little cry....as u do."

Victory puts Jamie 5-3 up in Slams against Andy, who has won in Flushing Meadows and twice at SW19.

But that pales into insignificance in comparison with Hingis who has now won 25 titles across singles and doubles – and could add another in the women’s doubles alongside Chan Yung-jan on Sunday.

Hingis, 36, was in sensational form on Arthur Ashe she held firm while Murray suffered a second set dip and survived a match point when receiving Venus’ serve during the tense deciding championship tie-break.

The pair now boast an incredible 10-0 record together.

But their partnership may soon come to an end with Hingis – who won her first Slam title aged 15 at Wimbledon in 1996 – rumoured to be considering calling time on her glittering career at the end of the season.

After clinching the match, Murray said: “She's an amazing player, she's had such a great career.

“It's been a lot of fun, we've won a lot of close tennis. It just shows how fine the margins are.

“Hopefully we play more.”

Hingis confirmed: “If I play, then definitely we will play together. That's what we said.”
