Andy Murray KO’d in Barcelona Open semi-finals after loose final game against Austria’s Dominic Thiem

ANDY MURRAY suffered a semi-final KO in the Barcelona Open and admitted he paid for loose shots in the deciding set.

Austria's Dominic Thiem toppled the world No 1 for the fist time, 6-2 3-6 6-4 in 133 minutes.

Murray missed a wild forehand to set up Thiem's clinching match-point and he said: "In that last game, I missed a couple shots I shouldn't have.

"It was quite windy out there and difficult to get into a rhythm.

"But I got three matches in three days against different types of player, which will be good for me."

Murray lost the first set in 34 minutes after his serve was broken three times.

And, although he battled back well in the second set, Thiem set up a final against Rafael Nadal by winning a rollercoaster third set.

Meanwle, British No 4 Aljaz Bedene beat Serb Laslo Djere 6-2 6-4 in the Hungarian Open semi-finals.

The Slovenian-born ace has now won 23 of his last 24 matches in storming up to 68th in ther world rankings.

After being outside the top 100 at the start of March, Bedene is likely to leap into the top 50 and replace Kyle Edmund as British No 2 if he beats world no 14 Lucas Pouille in the final.
