THE second Grand Slam of the year following the Australian Open is the French Open at Roland Garros.

The tournament boasts a rich history since the first in 1891 and remains a favourite of Rafael Nadal's who has won a staggering nine times on the clay court.

Here's all the information you need ahead of the French Open.

When does the French Open 2017 start?

The tournament lasts for 14 days with the first day of matches starting on May 28th before running until the 11th June.

The men's singles final take place on Sunday 11 June whilst the women's singles final and men's doubles final will begin on the day before.

Who are the defending champions?

In a duel between the best two players in the world, Novak Djokovic came out on top over Andy Murray despite the Brit winning the first set.

Djokovic's victory was historic as it meant he completed a career Grand Slam, becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four major titles at once.

In the women's singles Garbine Muguruza became just the second Spaniard to win the French Open when she defeated Serena Williams.

For UK viewers, ITV have broadcasting rights to show live coverage and highlights of the French Open, with all days being shown on ITV4.

They set a limit on four tickets for the main courts per person over the entire tournament and two tickets maximum for the final Sunday.

How much are tickets?

Tickets can vary from £17 for the outside courts to around £200 for the best seat on the final day at centre court.

Most tickets average from around £40 to £65 depending on the category of seats and which court you want to see.
