Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ana Ivanovic marry in Venice after double disappointment of Euro 2016 and Wimbledon
BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER may have helped knock out Italy at Euro 2016 - but now he is happy to rub it in by getting married in Venice.
The 31-year-old and his stunning tennis star girlfriend Ana Ivanovic have married in the romantic Italian city.
Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic have block-booked the Aman hotel in the city with friends and family - the same venue used by Hollywood star George Clooney when he wed human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014.
Also in attendance are ex-Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness and Germany team-mate Thomas Muller.
No Manchester United players are confirmed as attending at this point, with the club starting pre-season training in Carrington this week.
The pair will tie the knot with a civil ceremony today before attending church for the religious rites tomorrow.
The Manchester United star's future is reported to be up in the air, with Jose Mourinho looking to overhaul the Old Trafford midfield.
But for the next few days Ivanovic, 28, and Schweinsteiger will be preoccupied with their nuptial party.
Ivanovic was knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round this year by Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Now 28, she won the French Open in 2008 and has not since been able to re-capture her form from earlier in her career.
Andy Murray and wife Kim are understood to have been invited to the party - but are unlikely to attend after his Wimbledon-winning exploits.
Murray's post-title night out in Mayfair with SunSport man Dan King was well documented here.
Fellow tennis star Angelique Kerber, who was beaten in the women's final at SW19 is also invited.
