Wimbledon 2016: Great Britain’s Davis Cup heroes enjoy lap of honour on Centre Court ahead of Andy Murray v John Millman

CAPTAIN Leon Smith led Britain’s Davis Cup heroes on a lap of honour on Centre Court in front of a galaxy of sporting stars.

Smith and players Jamie Murray, Kyle Edmund, James Ward and Dan Evans received a standing ovation from guests including members of England’s 1966 World Cup winning team as they paraded the trophy.

It was 50 summers ago this month that Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Bobby Charlton and Gordon Banks helped the Three Lions to the only major title in their history.

But Team GB’s win over Belgium in November ended 79 YEARS of hurt since the nation’s last triumph in the 'World Cup of tennis'.

A notable absentee from the celebration was main man Andy Murray, who set a new competition record by winning 11 live rubbers across last year’s four matches.

Murray was preparing for his third round match against John Millman schedule for later on the same hallowed turf.

Mum Judy was there, though, to join in the applause for her elder son Jamie and the rest of the team.
