Wimbledon 2016: British No3 Kyle Edmund crashes out of Wimbledon after straight sets loss to Adrian Mannarino
Yorkshireman fails to break his SW19 duck as he struggles to get going against tricky French opponent
KYLE EDMUND’S Wimbledon duck continued as he became the first Brit to crash out of this year’s draw.
Hopes were high for the Yorkshireman, 21, coming into SW19 after he impressed at Queen's by beating world No20 Gilles Simon and taking a set off Andy Murray.
But Edmund never got going on Court 2, as he slumped to a straight sets defeat to Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, losing 6-2 7-5 6-4.
It means the British No3, who hit ten double faults, has now lost in the first round in all of his four appearances at Wimbledon.
And it was a huge disappointment for Edmund, the world No68, who would have been confident of beating a player ranked only 14 places above him.
But the writing was on the wall early on, as he was broken in the third game by the left-hander - and a further two times in a one-sided first set.
Edmund again lost his serve in the first game of the second, and, though he fought back to 5-5, was broken again by Mannarino, who served out to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third it was the same story, as Edmund was broken in the first game.
He again drew level before but would lose his serve again at 4-4.
