Eddie Jones gives England stars a ‘man cave’ to prevent boredom and breaches of coronavirus bubble
ENGLAND have made a huge ‘man cave’ as Eddie Jones works to keep his stars from becoming sport’s next Covidiots.
The Red Rose are settling into life in “the bubble” and Jones is wary of how Gareth Southgate’s footballers broke strict Covid-19 rules partying and getting with girls abroad.
So he has had Red Bull set up the ultimate den at their new HQ in South-West London to keep his players from boredom ahead of a busy autumn that will finally see them complete the Six Nations.
Unable to guarantee social distancing from punters at their usual £3million Surrey base at Pennyhill Park, the RFU forked out for a whole wing of £2,000-a-year private member’s club The Lensbury.
England will form a bio-secure bubble at the venue and boss Jones said: “We’re lucky Red Bull are a sponsor and they’ve set up a fantastic, state-of-the-art games lounge.
“If I was 30 years younger I would go in there but I feel a bit old walking in.
"We’ve got putting greens, we’ve got all sorts of games. But the big thing is that the players make their own enjoyment.
“The staff have done a fantastic job setting up The Lensbury. I think we’re well equipped to handle what’s ahead of us.”
Jones laid down the law in terms of what is expected of his England stars last night.
Now it is down to no- nonsense skipper Owen Farrell and his generals Maro Itoje and Co to help him enforce the strict social distancing rules they will have to live by.
When England were at The Lensbury three years ago, star backs Manu Tuilagi and Denny Solomona broke out for a boozy session in London and were booted out of the camp.
Jones said: “You have to have agreement about life in the bubble.
“We have to have a smile on our faces and get on with it. We should be so grateful for this opportunity.
“I’ve got a smile as I’m so excited to be coaching England again. They will understand their responsibilities but we all make mistakes.
“When you are in your 20s and 30s, sometimes you make mistakes — 40-years ago I did some stupid things.
“None of us are exempt from it. It’s going to be a constant driver to be as good as we can be in that area.
“It is something that we will make them aware of and something that the senior players will have to drive.
“The main thing for us is that we understand the responsibility that we have got. We are the England national rugby team.
“We will certainly be striving to be very disciplined.”
