His best friend, who went by the name Dzhenan, 22, was on hand to take photos of his mate, who earned the nickname King Kong.

Dzoskun said: "I simply wanted to get up high. Through the metal chains of the hoop I managed to climb up with the help of my friend. But suddenly I got stuck. To be honest I was terrified I would fall down.

"I was up there for half an hour. Thankfully the firefighters helped me. I was worried the hoop might break and I could have ended up badly injuring myself.

"My friends nicknamed me King Kong and Spiderman, but I don't mind."

Emergency services were called in the late afternoon to the scene in Groepelingen, near Bremen,  northern Germany.

They eventually got the teenager down with the help of a ladder.

Fire brigade spokesman Michael Richartz said people should be more careful when considering foolhardy stunts.

He said: "Such climbs can be very dangerous. He could have plunged down head-first when he got stuck with his foot."
