Rio Olympics 2016 medal table: Great Britain closing in on 2012 haul with two days left
BRITAIN are closing in the their London 2012 medal haul in Rio after the good times kept coming on Friday.
Nick Skelton and the women’s hockey team landed gold to consolidate second place in the rankings ahead of China with two days left.
Team GB now have 60 medals in total – five short of their tally four years ago on home soil.
Show jumper Skelton, 58, became his nation’s oldest gold medallist for 108 years with his triumph.
And the hockey stars upset favourites Holland in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Lutalo Muhammad was desperately unlucky not to join them on top of the podium after an agonising last-season defeat in his taekwondo final.
And the women’s 4×100 metre relay team won GB’s first medal in the event since 1984.
Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita claimed bronze as the United States retained their title.
