Ouch! Russian diver makes an Olympic splash by scoring zero after crash landing on her back

Poor Nadezhda Bazhina loses footing on take-off from springboard, suffers several flips and flops into water

RUSSIAN diver Nadezhda Bazhina scoring zero with a cringe-inducing back flop into the pool at the Rio Olympics.

She produced a horrendous dive during the 3metre springboard preliminary round.

It was supposed to be a three-and-a-half somersault...but turned out to be something completely different.

Bazhina lost her footing as she sprang from the board, killed her take-off and completed several flips as she fell.

She looked to have regained her composure halfway through the routine but couldn't keep control and smacked back-first into the water.

Bazhina's score ended her hopes of making the semi-final of the event despite four previous good dives.

A similar disaster befell Germany's Stephan Feck at London 2012 as he attempted a somersault, but lost the grip on one leg which saw him spin out of control and land flat on the water flat on his back with a huge thud.

He climbed out of the pool apparently unhurt after huge gasps from the crowd during the men's three-metre springboard, but received zeroes from all the judges.
