Rio OIympics 2016: Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner treat each other to a McDonald’s ahead of their sprint final duel in Rio velodrome

JASON KENNY and Callum Skinner will vie for Olympic gold in the men’s team sprint on Sunday.

But only after they have had a trip to McDonald’s.

The two pals, who won Britain’s first velodrome gold in the men’s team sprint with Philip Hindes on Thursday, managed to scrap their way though to the Olympic final in the men’s individual sprint.

In a change-up to the usual drill of two rounds on a day, they had to go through a brutal three rounds of sprint qualifying to reach the final.

That meant they needed to get in some calories, so British Cycling coaches appear to have urged them to get plenty in the tank for another day’s racing on Sunday.

Skinner tweeted from the McDonald’s in the Athletes’ Village: “Looking forward to the final tomorrow with my room & team mate @JasonKenny107 I’m treating him to a nutritious meal.”

After winning gold himself on Thursday, Kenny had to pause between rounds to watch his fiance Laura Trott win women’s team pursuit gold as they notched up their SEVENTH gold medal as a couple.

But he put romance and candle-lit dinners on hold to have a quiet night out under the golden arches with Sunday’s main rival Skinner.

For Kenny, 28, it is his third straight Olympic sprint final – with silver in Beijing in 2008 and gold at London 2012 as he was picked in the event ahead of Sir Chris Hoy.

But for Skinner, 23, Sunday is a venture into the unknown. It is his first major individual final at World Championships or Olympic Games.
