Rio Olympics 2016: Diving commentator Leon Taylor compares pool to Manchester canal

BBC'S Rio 2016 Olympic diving commentator Leon Taylor has compared the grimey million-pound Brazil swimming pool to the Manchester canal.

The retired diver and silver medallist said the pool bronze medal hero Tom Daley has been forced to dive into 'looks like the Manchester shipping canal'.

Nobody knows why the colour of the water changed overnight

The pool was closed earlier in the games as experts tried to work out what was making the water funky.

And Daley hoped he hadn't been accidentally drinking anything unsafe.

He said: “Diving pool is closed this morning.

“Hopefully that means we haven’t been diving in anything too bad the last couple of days!”

The games have been plagued by a number of problems since day one, with many competitors unhappy about the state of the Olympic Village.

And a German diver has claimed the entire building smells like human waste to add to fears the water is not up to scratch - or sniff.
