GREAT BRITAIN are continuing their charge up  the Rio 2016 medal table after a brilliant performance by the cyclists yesterday - and the rowers today.

On Friday night, Bradley Wiggins became GB's greatest ever Olympian after winning a fifth gold in the team pursuit.

And on Saturday, both the women's and the men's eights mustered medals - with the male contingent snatching a stunning gold, while the girls grabbed silver.

The men dominated throughout and surged to the top spot on the podium - streets ahead of Germany in second and the Netherlands in third.

The women meanwhile narrowly missed out on another gold, as the USA retained their 2008 and 2012 gong.

On Friday, Wiggo joined Owain Doull, Steven Burke and Ed Clancy in setting a world record to hold off a strong challenge from Australia.

Earlier rowers Heather Stanning and Helen Glover cruised to victory in the women’s pair final, retaining their gold medal from London 2012.

And just 30 minutes later, the tally jumped even higher as the men’s coxless four won their fifth consecutive Olympic title.

Alex Gregory, George Nash, Constantine Louloudis and Mohamed Sobhi put in another dominant performance to finish top, putting Team GB ahead of South Korea, Australia and Russia.

Cycling stars Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes and Callum Skinner were in fine form on Thursday, delivering gold in the team sprint in the Velodrome.

And Jessica Ennis-Hill looks like she’s also capable of bringing home the bacon after finishing quickest in the 100m hurdles earlier today.

But she faces stiff competition from Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who also has her eyes on the prize.

Sir Bradley Wiggins could also help Team GB’s medal count to rise before the day is through, with the cycling star aiming for his fifth Olympic gold in the men’s team pursuit.
