After receiving a check-up, Reyes was given the shocking news that she was with child.

But the athlete was also cleared to compete in the Olympics.

Reyes said: "I learned of the pregnancy two days before travelling. I can play, there is no restriction. Our coach congratulated me and knows I can play. I'm waiting for my chance."

Brazilian outlet report Reyes only told her team-mates once they arrived in Rio.

Reyes was not involved in Puerto Rico's first two matches but played in their third - and final - as they embarrassingly crashed out with three losses.

A number of athletes have pulled out of the Olympics amidst concerns of the Zika virus, a disease which poses particular threat to pregnant women as it can cause their babies to be born with brain anomalies.

In July, Liz Young competed in the Women's British Open despite being SEVEN-MONTHS pregnant.
