Rio Olympics 2016: Now the water polo pool turns freaky green – the day after the diving pool prompted Games health scare

RIO OLYMPIC organisers have been dealt another health scare - after the water polo pool turned a freaky green colour, just like the diving basin.

Games officials were yesterday forced to deny the strange colour of the water in the diving pool was a threat to the well being of the competitors - as well as accusations urine caused the blunder.

But today the water polo facility made the same odd transformation under gloomy Rio skies.

Olympic officials were left red-faced when they were forced to admit that the diving pool was turned green by algae overnight in the pool.

The divers had to carry on as normal and just get on with it, despite the awkward conditions.

And it didn't seem to have an effect on Brits Jack Laugher and Chris Mears as they won gold in the 3-metre diving competition.

The water polo pool was looking a healthy shade of blue a few days ago at the outdoor Maria Lenk Arena.

But the same problem as the diving tank appears to have jumped across.

Rio 2016 spokesman Mario Andrada said: "Yesterday mid-afternoon there was a sudden decrease in the alkalinity of the pool.

"Obviously the people in charge of maintaining the pool and of checking could and should have done more intensive tests."
