Rio Olympics 2016: Lilly King beats Russian drugs cheat Yulia Efimova in 100m breaststroke after publicly criticising rival
TEENAGE swimmer Lily King delivered an emphatic message that cheaters will not prosper with a brilliant gold medal in the 100m breaststroke.
The American won gold while Russian drugs cheat Yulia Efimova was booed to the rafters in the swimming pool at the Rio Olympics.
King, 19, won in Olympic record time having stoked the fires with Efimova the night before.
The American had both wagged her finger and voiced her disapproval of Efimova's doping history.
The Russian staged a late appeal against an initial suspension from these Games for using meldonium.
She had previously been banned for testing positive for steroids.
King was captured shaking her finger at the Russian as she watched her qualify for the final, with Efimova holding up a 'No 1' sign.
King then voiced her criticism.
She said: "I'm not a fan.
"I'm just going to swim harder for the USA, and hopefully it turns out for the best."
That's just what happened.
King beat Efimova - who came away with the silver - winning by more than half a second.
After the win, King slapped the water twice in her rivals lane.
"It’s incredible, just winning a gold medal, and knowing I did it clean," she said.
Later in the evening, King added that US athletes previously banned for doping should have been kicked off Team USA.
That includes sprint stars Justin Gatlin, arguably Usain Bolt's top challenger, and Tyson Gay.
She said: "I have to respect (the track authorities') decision even if it is something I don't necessarily agree with.
"No, do I think people who have been caught doping should be on the team?
"They shouldn't. It is unfortunate we have to see that.
"It is just something that needs to be set in stone that this is what we are going to do.
"Let's settle this and be done with it.
"There should not be any bouncing back and forwards."
