Rio Olympics: Andy Murray slaps on the sunscreen to combat blazing Brazilian sun as he trains for Viktor Troicki test
HE’S one of the world’s finest tennis players, but even Wimbledon champ Andy Murray is struggling to cope with the heat in Rio.
The world No2 kicks off his Olympics campaign against Viktor Troicki on Saturday and will be hoping he can retain his top-dog status after taking gold at London 2012.
Murray has also been handed the honour of carrying the Union Flag for Team GB at tonight’s opening ceremony, even though he almost blinded Princess Anne in a practice session earlier this week.
But before the carnival gets underway, Murray has been hitting the courts as he tries to acclimatise to the humid weather in Brazil.
Slapping on a thick layer of sunscreen, the Scot worked up a sweat as he raced around under the beating sun.
Murray was also snapped exercising with some suspension ropes to strengthen his upper body, and the current champ is clearly aiming to be in top form as he also prepares to launch an assault on the doubles with brother Jamie.
But the 29-year-old will be hoping to avoid clashing with fierce rival Novak Djokovic on his route to the final, with the Serb kicking off his campaign against Juan Martin Del Potro.
Meanwhile, fellow Brit Kyle Edmund takes on Australian ace Jordan Thompson as Team GB look to make a statement following their terrific medal haul four years ago.
Jo Konta faces Liechtenstein’s Stephanie Vogt in her first match, with Heather Watson taking on Shuai Peng from China.
