What is the Triple Crown in Motorsport?
ALTHOUGH an unofficial achievement, the Triple Crown is one of the most sought after in racing.
It is claimed by winning the three most prestigious races in the world.
These are the Monaco Grand Prix, Le Mans 24 Hour and the Indianapolis 500.
The races differ so much with the types of car involved and types of circuit that very few ever attempt it.
In motorsport history, only 19 drivers have competed in all three legs.
Has Fernando Alonso won it?
THE SPANIARD is well known for his exploits in Formula One and is a double World Champion.
He has won the Monaco Grand Prix twice - first in 2006 and once again the following year.
In 2018 he won the Le Mans 24-hour race, bringing it home for Toyota to end their long drought at the event.
Alonso took part in the 2017 Indianapolis 500, but finished 29th.
He needs to win that race to cement the Triple Crown.
Which other drivers have?
ONLY one driver has ever successfully completed the Triple Crown.
That accolade goes to Britain's Graham Hill.
