Happy Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton will be happy if Nico Rosberg wins the Formula One title, according to their old karting boss

The German can win his first title this weekend at Abu Dhabi and will be eager to put a halt in his Mercedes team-mates dominance over the last few years

LEWIS HAMILTON will be secretly HAPPY if Nico Rosberg wins the Formula One title this weekend -- according to his former karting boss Dino Chiesa.

The Italian oversaw their fledgling careers in 2000 at karting team MBM.com where Hamilton got the better over the German.

However, going into this weekend's F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi, Chiesa believes Rosberg could now come out on top for the first time in their careers.

And if he does triumph at the Duel in the Desert, Chiesa says Hamilton will take it on the chin.

He said: "Lewis is more mature now than when he raced for me and I think he will be quietly happy for Nico to win the championship.

"When Lewis and Nico were on the podium in the first race in 2008 in Australia, Lewis called me 10 minutes afterwards and said 'hey did you see we are on the podium together'.

"Lewis now has three titles and he wants to win number four but if Nico wins, in his heart, he will be happy.

"Inside, Lewis is a really good guy. Sure, for the first 10 minutes he will not be happy, but after that I think inside he will be.

"From 2000 they have been racing together. In 2000, Lewis had already won the championship by the third round and in the final round he had to help Nico to finish second in the championship.

"I think Nico won the first race to get second in the championship and then in the second race, Lewis won it but he helped Nico out." There is no doubt Hamilton is the quicker of the two drivers but has been let down by poor reliability and his own inability to master the new starts.

But after 16-years of beatings, Chiesa believes the pendulum of luck could be about to swing in Rosberg's favour.

He added: "One time the luck has to turn and this is the time for Nico. Yes the pressure is high and he will keep his feelings measured.

"But the one thing he will not want to do is decide a title like Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at Japan in 1989 and 1990. He will not want to crash into Lewis.

"That would be the easy way to do it but that is not Nico's way.

"Outside, he will want to show he is calm but inside he is under pressure.

Lewis has nothing to lose but I think the good thing for Nico is that there will not be any rain."
