British ace Lewis Hamilton was again quickest around his home track with enemy and Mercedes rival Nico Rosberg hot on his wheels in second.

Former world champ Jenson Button - who may be on the brink of quitting the sport - could only manage 12th fastest and is expected to struggle in qualifying this afternoon in his McLaren.

The Red Bull cars of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were third and fourth quickest around the iconic track - much to the delight of team boss Christian Horner.

Rain threatened to cause carnage during the session - but a quick early-morning shower was all that hit.
