Conor McGregor ‘would love’ boxing return calling out Floyd Mayweather to a rematch
Irish star was beaten in 10 rounds on his ring debut but wants another crack at the Sweet Science
CONOR McGREGOR “would love” a second go in the boxing ring and called out old foe Floyd Mayweather to a rematch.
In 2017 UFC star McGregor traded the cage for the ring squaring off against five-weight world champion Mayweather in a mega-fight generating an estimated £470million.
Mayweather, 42, stopped McGregor, 30, in 10 rounds before retiring at 50-0 leaving The Notorious to make a UFC return in October 2018 where he was beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Speaking to philanthropist Tony Robbins, former two-weight UFC champ McGregor revealed his desire to have another crack at boxing and “knows” he would beat Mayweather in a rematch.
McGregor said: “We’ll see what happens. I would love another go in the boxing ring, to see what happens.
“I would love to rematch him under boxing rules again and have that knowledge and my sparring partners coming forward with that style and see where we go.
“I believe I would win – actually, there I go again with that fake humbleness, I know I would win.
“I know he’s not going to come into my game, but I would love to rematch him under boxing rules again and have that knowledge and my sparring partners coming forward with that style and see where we go.
“Originally the promise was that I fought him on his terms, and he then fought me on my terms.
“I haven’t heard from him since. We’ll see what happens. I would love another go in the boxing ring, to see what happens.”
McGregor is now free to fight having served a six month suspension for his part in the post-fight brawl at UFC 229 involving Nurmagomedov.
The Irish star is braced for an octagon return this year, though an opponent for the high-profile comeback is yet to be determined.
