A HOCKEY scuffle in the NHL has led to Conor McGregor dropping a cheeky dig at UFC rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The pair's rivalry came to a head in their Las Vegas meeting last October, which Khabib won before an impromptu scuffle that led to a fine and ban for the Russian.

On Tuesday, the official UFC Twitter account posted a video of an ice hockey fight between Alex Ovechkin and Andrei Svechnikov.

They used a McGregor quote that "precision beats power, and timing beats speed" to caption the clip of Oveckin putting his rival on the floor.

It prompted the Irish fighter to tweet out his support for the Washington Capitals star, who he met at the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

He tweeted: "Congrats Ovechkin!

"A Proper Russian.

"Great to meet you in Moscow big man, see you again soon!

"They can run, but they can’t hide."

Ovechkin's fellow Russian, Khabib, has not fought since the UFC 229 victory over McGregor.

The 30-year-old still holds an undefeated MMA record and recently shunned reports of a rematch.

Following a McGregor tweet on the possibility, Nurmagomedov replied: "You and your team never won anything since 2016.

"You got to get some [wins], and we can talk about rematch."
