'full of excuses'

Fans rip into ‘deluded’ Conor McGregor after UFC star claims he broke his foot three weeks before one-sided defeat to Khabib

The Notorious claims he is 'happy with how the contest went' despite the devastating loss

UFC fans are labelling Conor McGregor "full of excuses" after The Notorious claimed he fought Khabib Nurmagomedov with a broken foot.

McGregor, 30, was beaten by Nurmagomedov, 30, in four rounds in October after tapping out to a neck-crank.

However, the former two-weight UFC champion revealed on Twitter that he fought with a broken foot - and gloated about a punch he landed on Nurmagomedov’s “blood brother” post-fight.

McGregor said: “I broke my foot three weeks out from the bout.

“I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night. On his blood brother.

“I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned. In my fighting and more importantly my preparation. Time will reveal all.”

Fans on Twitter are not convinced of McGregor’s claim however, even suggesting the beaten fighter is "full of excuses".

One said: "Oh, now you had a broken foot? Seriously...."

Another said: "Ouchhhh @TheNotoriousMMA is full of excuses imagine he had won the fight lol @TeamKhabib showed him who is the real champ and it’s only one."

One commented: "You seriously need to let it go."

No further comment has been made by McGregor on his foot, though it is not the first time he has carried an injury into a fight.

In July 2015, carrying an ACL injury that left him unable to kick during his training, McGregor knocked out Chad Mendes in two rounds for the UFC interim featherweight title.

McGregor’s fighting career remains unclear after he announced a shock retirement from MMA two weeks ago - though he seemed to have reversed that decision just four days later.

Rivals McGregor and Nurmagomedov have continued their feud online since the October fight, with both fighters sinking to new lows with their goading which led to UFC president Dana White publicly condemning their actions.

McGregor recently told his fans “see you in the Octagon” - as he all but confirmed his plans for a return to the UFC.
