CONOR McGREGOR has boasted about landing a blow on a member of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s entourage in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl - after being fined £38,000 for the row.
Both fighters were involved in shocking fights with each other's teams just moments after the Irishman had been submitted by Nurmagomedov in October.
Nurmagomedov, 30, hopped out of the octagon and attacked McGregor’s teammate and Bellator welterweight Dillon Danis.
McGregor remained in the cage, exchanging punches with two of Nurmogomedov’s entourage before the Irishman was attacked from behind by MMA fighter Zubaira Tukhugov.
The Notorious detailed his part in the brawl on Twitter and boasted about slipping a punch thrown by Nurmagomedov’s friend and countering with a “straight left down the pipe”.
McGregor said: “Straight left hand inside the attackers jab.
“He attempted to use the big security guard that’s in all the movies as cover, but I could smell him a mile away and landed flush down the pipe.
“The final blow of the night UFC 229 in association with McGregor Sports and Entertainment.”
Though McGregor claims to have got the better of Nurmagomedov’s teammate, he was ultimately handed his second octagon loss after losing at UFC 229.
The post-fight brawl landed McGregor and Nurmagomedov fines and suspensions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
McGregor was slapped with a £38,000 fine and a backdated suspension of six months for his part.
However, Nurmagomedov was given a far harsher punishment, receiving a £380,000 fine and banned for nine months - though it can be shortened to six if he attends an anti-bullying public service.
Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor reacted to his far more marginal punishment by thanking the NSAC on Twitter and said he looks “forward to competing again soon”.
McGregor said: “I am thankful for the Nevada athletic commission's fair assessment and handling of the brawl incident.
“It was not my intention to land the final blow of the night on my opponent’s blood relative. It’s just how it played out.
“I look forward to competing again soon.”
