Dana White on Conor McGregor: ‘He’s got some personal stuff going on’
UFC president Dana White says Conor McGregor will have to let go of one of his titles if he wins the lightweight belt at UFC 205, but hints at external factors that may soon play a part in his career
UFC president 's relationship with is the constant source of speculation, with the hard-nosed UFC boss appearing to butt heads with the Irish superstar over negotiations and media obligations in the past.
But White explained that when it came to negotiating fights with his prized asset, there's really no problem at all.
"It's actually not that bad," he laughed as he explained his relationship with McGregor on ESPN's Sportscenter.
"He's an intelligent guy, and the thing that I love and respect about Conor McGregor is that he loves to fight and he wants to fight everybody.
"He's my kind of guy!"
Many fans are calling on the UFC boss to force McGregor to relinquish the featherweight title he's not defended since he knocked out Jose Aldo to win it last December.
And White said that time could come after the UFC 205 bout with lightweight champion .
"This fight's coming up, and he wants to try to gain both belts," he explained, saying that if McGregor defeats Alvarez the Dubliner will have a decision to make.
"He will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York."
But White stopped short of saying which belt he'd be forced to drop, saying: "That's what we'll figure out."
And the UFC boss hinted at some external goings-on with McGregor that may soon be made public.
"He's got some stuff going on right now - some personal stuff that I'm sure he'll announce when he's ready - but this fight made sense."
