WEIGHTY ISSUES

Crisis averted as UFC champ Miesha Tate narrowly avoids missing UFC 200 weigh-in deadline in Las Vegas

THE UFC narrowly avoided another UFC 200 main event disaster this morning in Las Vegas when Miesha Tate weighed in for her world title bout with Amanda Nunes RIGHT on the 10am deadline.

Had Tate missed that deadline, there was the possibility that her fight could have been scrapped, or held as a non-title bout.

But thankfully for Tate, for Nunes and for the UFC - who have had more than enough drama already this week - she arrived on the scale at 10am on the dot and hit championship weight for her contest.

Making light of the situation, Tate's coach Rob Follis dryly told our colleagues at : "We don't like wasting time."

There was drama elsewhere on the card, though, as former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks missed weight by a quarter of a pound after a couple of attempts at the scales. He'll forfeit 20% of his fight purse, but his bout with Kelvin Gastelum will continue at a catchweight.

Everyone else hit their marks as the fighters made their weigh-ins using the new early weigh-in procedure first used in the UFC at UFC 199 in Los Angeles.

The response to the new regime was overwhelmingly positive and the UFC have opted to adopt the procedure moving forward.

The only person who wasn't too keen on proceedings was Brock Lesnar, who made weight for his heavyweight clash with Mark Hunt, tipping the scales at 265.5lbs, half a pound inside the maximum allowable weight for a UFC bout.

But the WWE star wasn't in the mood for the usual weigh-in pose for the cameras, and simply raised his hand to the cameras and walked off stage as the waiting photographers asked him for a picture.

The fighters will step on the scales again later today at the ceremonial weigh-in event in front of the fans at the T-Mobile Arena.

The fights are now official for Saturday night's blockbuster event. Watch the action live on BT Sport 2 from 1am.
