THE MMA world is mourning the death of Canadian light-heavyweight Ryan Jimmo, who died yesterday in a hit-and-run incident.
The 34-year-old former UFC fighter, who made seven appearances in the Octagon, reportedly died after being struck by a car in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Jimmo hasn't officially been named as the victim, but the fighter was confirmed as the deceased party in the accident by his aunt on a CBC television report in Canada.
Edmonton Police are now on the hunt for the suspects for what is being treated as a homicide.
A press release read: "It is reported there was a brief verbal altercation between the drivers of two separate vehicles.
"The driver of one vehicle, a 34-year-old man, approached the occupants of the second vehicle on foot. As he was walking back to his vehicle, it is alleged the suspect vehicle accelerated, struck the man and fled the area.
"The man who was struck was treated and transported to hospital where he was declared deceased."
News of Jimmo's death has left the MMA world in shock, with figures from within the sport tweeting their sadness and respect for the Canadian, who competed seven times in the UFC Octagon, and was a former champion in the Maximum Fighting Championship promotion in Canada.
