The referee eventually stopped the bout with 50 seconds remaining after Covington was dropped to the canvas twice.

The American was left battered and bruised but showed incredible bravery after the UFC confirmed he had been fighting the last two rounds with a broken jaw.

TV cameras picked up the exact moment Covington suffered the fracture after Usman clocked him with a fierce right jab to the face.

The 31-year-old told his corner that he believed his jaw was broken and was taken to the hospital immediately after the fight for an X-ray.

UFC confirmed his injury with the statement: “Following an addendum medical report completed regarding Colby Covington, it has been determined that he has suffered a non-displaced midline mandible fracture.”

The setback didn’t deter Covington from sensationally hitting out at referee Marc Goddard for what he thought was a poor stoppage.

He wrote: “Just a kid from Oregon chasing the American Dream.

“Working hard and earning everything in my life the hard way since day one.

“I put myself out there in front of the world to kill or be killed. Marc Godard robbed me tonight with p*** poor officiating. He let my opponent fake injuries for extra time and stopped the fight early.

“Just like America, my will and spirit can never be broken. Speed bumps can’t slow me down. You people ain’t seen nothing yet.”

Usman said of his victory: “This one is not just for me it’s for the whole entire world right now.
