Glorious Goodwood day four each-way betting tips: Two longshots to fill your pockets at Goodwood from Jack Keene
WE hit the frame with Fox Premier yesterday but Maqsad ran as flat as a pancake in the Nassau.
Anyway, onwards to day four. I've got a couple of my strongest fancies of the week running on Friday so I'll be gutted if we don't find the back of the net with at least one of them.
There is a red-hot renewal of the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood, and though he has a few pounds to find with the market leaders I reckon FIFTH POSITION (2.25 Goodwood) is well worth a play.
This lad is a strapping beast and he opened his account in determined fashion over a mile at Nottingham in May, rallying bravely to beat the very talented Space Blues (subsequently Group 1 placed).
He was stepped up to 1m3f for a Derby trial at this venue after that, but he didn't get home having raced prominently and he had to settle for third behind Private Secretary and Spanish Mission.
The colt acquitted himself well again when last sighted, this time against his elders over 1m2f at Sandown when he wasn't beaten far in fifth behind Elarqam, who bolted up in the York Stakes last weekend.

He travels powerfully through his races and will absolutely relish the drop back to a mile against his own age group, while his good run in the Cocked Hat Stakes in the spring shows he can handle the track.
The Roger Varian yard had been going through a below-par patch, but at time of writing the Newmarket handler had fired in five winners in the last week.
There are obviously several dangers, and I have the utmost respect for Duke Of Hazzard, King Ottokar and Biometric. But this big old unit has plenty more to offer himself and he has untapped potential over this trip.
The Golden Mile is one of the biggest betting races of the season, and in BALTIC BARON (3.00 Goodwood) David O'Meara has a horse capable of taking the £93,375 first prize back up north.
This French recruit is exactly the type of horse that O'Meara excels with (Lord Glitters, Suedois, Lord Of The Land all had similar profiles) and he has yet to run a bad race on turf in the UK.
He was second first time out in a small-field event at Nottingham and took a step forward when second to the classy History Writer in a deep handicap at Sandown.

After a flop on Tapeta at Newcastle he was gelded and bounced right back to form at York latest, where he was an eye-catching second to an improving three-year-old, to whom he was conceding a whopping 27lbs.
He is at his best when attacking a strong pace, something he should get here, and the fitting of the first-time visor could prove a masterstroke.
The son of Shamardal is well-drawn in stall six and he is currently 2lb well-in, so I'd be very disappointed if he wasn't knocking firmly on the door.
