Racing review: Hotpots and howlers from the last seven days in the world of horse racing

THERE were some memorable performances and some moments to forget in the world of racing this week.

Take a look at our latest instalment of Hotpots and Howlers, where we pick out the good, the bad and the downright ugly from the past seven days.

Hotpots

It was impossible not to be impressed with Mohaather in the Greenham on Saturday.

Marcus Tregoning's exciting young colt showed a smart turn of foot to land the Guineas trial in decisive fashion.

It remains to be seen whether this speedster will be as effective over a mile, but he has a big engine and a bright future.

It's also great to see Tregoning have another smart horse on his hands 13 years after his Sir Percy won the Derby.

HORSES FOR COURSES Sun Racing's Zoe Crabtree running the marathon for Ebony Horse Club

Shrewd punters landed a right touched in the finale at Thirsk on Saturday.

Lucky Beggar, a general 40-1 shot on Friday evening, was hammered in the betting and sent off a 6-1 chance.

And in truth, the race was rarely in doubt for the David Griffiths-trained sprinter as he bowled along on the lead and stretched clear to win in style.

One for the good guys.

Howlers

Annoyingly, there isn't a great deal for me to moan about this week.

But I do have one gripe, which has been irritating me for a few of weeks and will only get worse as the season goes on.

I can't for the life of me understand the decision of those at the top of Irish racing to switch over to Racing TV.

Yesterday's coverage was interrupted on several occasions, with a number of split-screens and hurried analysis. I wonder if they regret moving from the impressive Sky Sports?
