NEWBURY hosts the first big Classic trials in Britain on Saturday, with a cracking field set to tackle the Greenham Stakes.
We've all got all you need to know about the big meeting right here.
Race 1 - 1.40 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (Registered As The John Porter Stakes) (Group 3)
DEFOE won this contest on his reappearance 12 months ago and went on to acquit himself well in Group 1 company for the rest of the season.
He returns here having had a gelding op, and if he can put his best foot forward he will take plenty of beating.
The only blemish on Young Rascal's record is his seventh in last year's Derby.
He is unbeaten in three visits to this track and is feared most ahead of Laraaib, though Mootasadir could play a part if transferring his smart all-weather form to turf.
VERDICT - 1. Defoe 2. Young Rascal 3. Laraaib
Race 2 - 2.10 Dubai Duty Free Stakes (Registered As The Fred Darling Stakes) (Group 3)
Group 3 winner So Perfect brings the best form to the contest and, having also placed at Group 1 level last term, she is the one to beat.
But DANCING VEGA looked a bit special when winning by four lengths on debut at Doncaster in October.
The form has since been franked by the runner-up (won at Listed level) and her trainer Ralph Beckett has a good record in this race.
Yourtimeisnow is better than she showed when last seen in the Rockfel Stakes, and she isn't without a chance.
VERDICT - 1. Dancing Vega 2. So Perfect 3. Yourtimeisnow
Race 3 - 2.40 Watership Down Stud Greenham Stakes (Group 3)
This race has been thrown wide open following Too Darn Hot's withdrawal.
Boitron was far from disgraced when fourth in Group 1 company on Arc day in October and he is two from two at this track.
Mohaather is another to have impressed at Newbury, comfortably landing the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes in the autumn.
Hello Youmzain is top-rated following his Group 2 win in France and looks sure to go well under James Doyle, while the unbeaten pair Urban Icon and Magic J will win plenty of races.
But preference is for GREAT SCOT, who progressed throughout last season for trainer Tom Dascombe.
The strapping colt was a close fifth in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster last time and appeals as the type to improve further as a three-year-old.
VERDICT - 1. Great Scot 2. Boitron 3. Hello Youmzain
Race 4 - 3.15 MansionBet Spring Cup Handicap
As was the case in the Lincoln, a race which several of these contested, there doesn't look to be a great deal of pace.
Masham Star (drawn 15) looks one of the few in here who could lead, and his proximity to prominent race IBRAZ (stall 16) could prove decisive.
Roger Varian's lightly-raced colt likes to race up with the speed and had some strong handicap form last term.
He is open to further progress this season and a mark of 93 should be within reach.
Ripp Orf and Another Batt caught the eye when finishing well from off the pace in the Lincoln and should go well, provided they aren't too far out of their ground again.
Exec Chef and Chiefofchiefs also hold solid claims and are shortlist material.
VERDICT - 1. Ibraz 2. Ripp Orf 3. Chiefofchiefs
Race 5 - 3.50 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes (Div 1)
Not a lot of form to go on here, but on paper FOX CHAIRMAN makes plenty of appeal.
He is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner La Collina and trainer Andrew Balding has his string in fine form at present.
Crystal Tribe represents powerful connections and is bred to be useful, while Just The Man has shown ability on the track and should be involved.
VERDICT - 1. Fox Chairman 2. Crystal Tribe 3. Just The Man
Race 6 - 4.25 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes (Div 2)
Expensive purchase ROSEMAN cost €650,000 as a yearling and he boasts a smart profile on paper.
His trainer is capable of readying one first time out and this doesn't look the strongest of races.
Raise You ran with promise when second on debut and is the main threat ahead of John Gosden's Gold Stick.
VERDICT - 1. Roseman 2. Raise You 3. Gold Stick
Race 7 - 5.00 Dreweatts Maiden Stakes
The Queen holds a strong hand here, with PIANISSIMO and Space Walk.
Preference is for the former, who shaped with encouragement when second on debut at Chelmsford.
Space Walk is very well-bred and commands respect, with Majestic Dawn the pick of the remainder.
VERDICT - 1. Pianissimo 2. Space Walk 3. Majestic Dawn
Race 8 - 5.35 Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap
The lightly-raced TIME CHANGE was progressing nicely when last sighted.
The daughter of Dutch Art returns has a 331 day lay-off to overcome but she could be on a dangerous mark.
New Show, Frontispiece and Harbour Breeze head a long list of dangers.
VERDICT - 1. Time Change 2. New Show 3. Frontispiece
