Best horse racing tips for today’s action at Newbury, Doncaster, Newcastle, Bangor and Wolverhampton from Tom Bull

Don't miss out on Tom Bull's best bets at today's five meetings

THERE was such a strong gust of wind this morning that my bullring flew straight up my nose!

Luckily it went through the system - not without some discomfort, mind you - and my head is now back on all things racing.

1

Newbury

2.25 Whatswrongwithyou - There may be a fair few things wrong with me (like the fact one of my horns keeps getting caught in the hedge) but there isn't much wrong with Whatswrongwithyou. Nicky Henderson's unexposed hurdler was backed off the boards before the Imperial Cup last season but was never put in the race and finished an unlucky third. A mark of 139 almost certainly underestimates him and he won't be wanting for fitness. He's a very strong traveller who has won at the track and has a tremendous chance.

Newcastle

1.00 Windsor Avenue - I've never been to Windsor but I can tell you Farmer Giles gave me a royal good feed this morning! I was disappointed Brian Ellison's exciting six-year-old lost his unbeaten record on seasonal reappearance but he got back on track with a nice victory in a maiden hurdle last time and can improve again to take this. It looks a decent race but he could be a cut above.

Bully's Saturday Bankers

1.00 Newcastle - Windsor Avenue

2.25 Newbury - Whatswrongwithyou

2.50 Doncaster - Inchcolm

3.10 Bangor - Belmont Jewel

7.45 Wolverhampton - Salute The Soldier

Doncaster

2.50 Inchcolm - Needed every yard of the three miles at Hexham last time out, so the extra yardage at this equally stiff track should be ideal. He's the only horse coming into the contest off the back of a good performance and in this grade recent form is a premium. He's up 4lb but that shouldn't matter and he can do the business once again.

Bangor-on-Dee

3.10 Belmont Jewel - Not shown a massive amount in novice events but now she's qualified for a mark this is her time to shine. Trainer Michael Scudamore has been firing in the winners of late and his mare has been given every chance off an opening mark of 98. Jonjo O'Neill Jnr has been booked which is a massive plus in a race where most of the pilots are relatively inexperienced.

Wolverhampton

7.45 Salute The Soldier - Will need to improve to defy a higher mark in a tougher grade but he is almost certainly capable of doing just that. Clearly loves a synthetic surface and he looked a work in progress when winning last time out. Tackles more refined opposition here but should have more to come for the lethal Cox/Kirby duo.
