DO OR DIE

Free horse racing tips for today: Goodwood and Chepstow – Steve Mullen’s betting preview for Sunday, October 14

Steve Mullen guides you through Sunday's racing at Goodwood and Chepstow

IT’S DO or die at Goodwood today.

DOURADO was massively unlucky not to win at Epsom last time and looks the one to beat in the closing race at 5.30.

1

He is off the same mark as that effort when he was blocked a couple of times entering the business end of the race.

He crossed the line full of running just over a length off the pace and he runs off the same mark today.

It wasn’t a case of him not handling Epsom’s ups and downs so he should have no problem with  Goodwood’s roller-coaster. He certainly looked right at home when beaten a neck here in May — again off today’s mark of 80.

He steps up from 7f to a mile today, which looks another positive as he finishes off his races well.

The main danger could be Sing Out Loud who went close himself at Epsom last time. He has winning form around here and stays a little further so could make this a test of stamina.

DESERT LANTERN can light up the 3.10 at Goodwood.

Silvestre De Sousa takes over on board Mark Johnston’s juvenile who showed lots of promise at Wolverhampton last time out.

She seemed to enjoy her first crack at this 7f distance when a close-up second at Wolverhampton last time out.

Things didn’t go quite to plan there and she was blocked a couple of times while trying to hit top gear.

She’s already had a sighter of Goodwood when finishing in midfield of a hotter race than this at the Glorious meeting. She was far from disgraced there and found the 6f distance on the sharp side.

ENABLE VS TREVE Who wins the Battle of the Fillies?

DOUBLE ROSS must like the south Wales air because he usually runs well at Chepstow.

He took the 4.00 two seasons ago from a 13lb higher mark and has every chance of another victory today.

He may be 12 now but his comeback run at Perth last time was a promising one and the likely soft ground shouldn’t be an issue. He was also second in this 12 months ago which bodes well.

Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is making his usual strong start to the season and can land another win.

He also has a good chance with BALLYMOY in the 4.35.

He is coming back from a break having landed a big-field win at Sandown on his handicap debut last time out.
