Steve Mullen guides you through Tuesday's racing at Lingfield, Beverley, Warwick and Chelmsford

BEVERLEY

2.10

MELGATE MUSIC took a big step forward when finishing a close-up fifth at Wolverhampton last time despite being sent off at 150-1.

2

He came home strongly there despite not being asked too many questions. This looks a fairly weak race and, provided he handles the soft ground, it won’t take a lot more to strike.

2.45

SAMEEM looks the pick of those with racecourse experience after placed efforts here and at Thirsk last time out.

He handled the soft ground well there and a repeat would see him go close, with similar comments applying to Newmarket second Four Mile Bridge.

It wouldn’t be a shock if Mark Johnston newcomer War Chariot proved good enough so keep an eye on the betting.

3.20

BEVERLEY BULLET is taking a drop in class after winning at Carlisle over this trip before a quieter effort at Pontefract last time where she didn’t get the run of the race.

The ground was soft for her victory, as it will be here, and she’s only 3lb higher in the weights.

Keepup Kevin ran well in a similar race here earlier in the season and wasn’t disgraced at Newmarket last time so should have a chance.

3.55

PERFECT PASTURE ran a solid seventh in the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday and this represents a fair drop in class from that company.

The ground was testing there so this surface won’t be a problem. Being turned out quickly is a slight concern but connections clearly feel it won’t be a problem.

Savalas has been keeping hot company in handicaps and will try to take this from the front.

4.30

DETACHMENT has been in good form and followed up a good second at Doncaster with a win in better class at Pontefract last time out.

He comes here with a 6lb penalty and, given the conditions are similar to that victory, he should be right there again.

Archie Perkins is going for a hat-trick of wins here and seemed to have a little left when scoring over 1m2f latest. This shorter trip holds no fears.

5.00

STRINGYBARK CREEK likes to be kept busy so coming back just three days after winning at Catterick is a wise move.

He had plenty in hand crossing the line there so a 6lb penalty isn’t a major concern. He won here earlier this season which is another plus.

Thornaby Nash enjoyed the testing conditions when winning at Carlisle last time and is a fair 3lb higher in this similar race.

5.30

Newcomer CHARLES KINGSLEY doesn’t appear to have much to beat here and he comes from a good family and top connections so should know his job well enough.

Thawry has had plenty of chances so Athary looks best of the rest after a fair fifth at Windsor last time out.

6.00

WHATWOULDYOUKNOW is just 2lb higher than when winning over course and distance two runs ago. He can be forgiven a modest run at Lingfield as it came just a couple of days later.

He’s been given a little break now and is a good ride for an inexperienced jockey.

Warrior’s Spirit won a similar race to this at Carlisle last time and should appreciate the step up in distance.
