Alpha Centauri has suffered a fetlock injury and connections are waiting on further tests

CONNECTIONS of Alpha Centauri are nervously waiting on test results after Alpha Centauri’s defeat in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

Jessica Harrington’s filly was sent off the odds-on favourite for the race but was no match for Laurens in a thrilling race.

Alpha Centauri suffered a shock defeat at Leopardstown

As Alpha Centauri came to make her challenge, she appeared to stumble slightly.

After the race she was reported to be clinically abnormal and was sent for further examination.

It has now been revealed that she has suffered a fetlock injury and connections are waiting on further tests to find out the extent of the injury.

Alan Cooper, racing manager to her owners, the Niarchos family, said on Sunday morning: “The vets are having a good look at her this morning, so as of yet there’s no real further news.
