Harry Angel likely to head to Ascot next month despite Sprint Cup defeat
Trainer Clive Cox reported the top sprinter to be in good shape after his return from injury on Saturday
TOP SPRINTER Harry Angel is still on course for the British Champions Sprint at Ascot next month.
The four-year-old colt finished sixth in the Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday, his first outing since suffering a leg injury at Royal Ascot.
The son of Dark Angel attempted to make all the running in the £300,000 sprint on heavy ground, having won the race under similar conditions 12 months ago .
However, he got tired inside the final furlong as The Tin Man came home in front for Newmarket-based James Fanshawe.
Cox said the £600,000 Champions Sprint would still be on Harry Angel's radar, provided the ground doesn't come up bottomless on 20 October.
Cox said: "He is fine this morning and he has come out of the race well. He was just a little bit fresh early on.

"The ground was heavy, but in comparison to last year, the Sprint Cup was the fifth race run on it compared to the third.
"It just made it a little bit more difficult but it was the same for all of them.
"It just appeared to rain at Haydock more than anywhere else.
"He clearly found the last half-furlong a long way, but I'm delighted with how he has come out of the race.

"The Champions Sprint (October 20) would be attractive if we get a drier time in the run-up to it.
"That is the most logical target.
"First and foremost I am very pleased with how he has come out of the race and fair play to James Fanshawe and The Tin Man."
Harry Angel is a general 7-1 shot for the Champions Sprint, with The Tin Man the 3-1 market leader.
