Top-class filly Enable makes a winning return at Kempton Park under Frankie Dettori

John Gosden's brilliant four-year-old eased to victory in the Group 3 September Stakes and now heads the betting for the Arc

CHAMPION filly Enable breezed to a comfortable success on her return at Kempton on Saturday.

John Gosden's brilliant four-year-old made all the running under Frankie Dettori to beat Crystal Ocean in the Group 3 September Stakes - and bookies reacted by slashing her odds for the Arc.

The daughter of Nathaniel had been off the track with an injury since winning the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly in October last year.

She was excitable before the race in the hands of Dettori and the Italian didn't muck about, sending her straight into the lead in the four-runner contest.

She bowled along at a good tempo and showed her trademark turn of foot in the home straight to see off the classy Crystal Ocean (6-4) by three and a half lengths.

Enable (8-15f) was receiving 8lbs from her main rival, but connections were pleased with the way she saw her race out after a long absence.

Gosden said: "It was a nice race for both of them if you are having a prep for the Arc.

"I couldn't be more thrilled with her, it was hands and heels. It was good to see her back, as it's been a long wait.

"She will come on, she came here 80 per cent and the race will put her right.

"She is at a good place mentally and the race will put her right."

She will now head straight to Longchamp to defend her Arc crown on 7 October, and she is now the 6-4 favourite having been as big as 5-1 before her comeback.

Gosden continued: "She has found it (being out of action) more frustrating than us.

"It really annoys her when the other horses go out on the (Newmarket) Heath to canter and gallop and she has to stay behind - she doesn't like that at all.

"She is back, let's hope we can get to the Arc in four weeks' time."
