IT’S a good job I’m a big fan of Ascot. I’m going to be seeing a lot of it this afternoon.
I have a full book of seven rides and that’s just the way I like it.

There are some nice chances among them and also a few to keep an eye on for the future.

One of my best rides has to be my old pal GILGAMESH (2.45).  I’ve only ridden him four times and I’ve won three on him.

This looks the perfect race as long as the ground is on the fast side. Seven furlongs on a straight track on decent ground is his gig.

I’ve won this before so I know what it takes. He’s well capable of winning. He stays well but has a bit of speed, too.

He’s drawn in stall 20. We won’t know if that’s a good thing until the race. Sometimes the track isn’t as wide as normal because they save the ground for Champions’ Day.

It can be  more difficult to pick your way through if they stay in one group. When they do split you find the two groups race against each other so you get a faster pace.

I start on FARO ANGEL (1.35). He’s one of those I’m looking forward to next year, he’s a lovely big horse.

I’ve ridden him  in the morning and I think he’ll run a nice race. I’m not expecting fireworks though as he’ll probably need the run.

Luca Cumani doesn’t push his horses too much in their early days. He’s going to be nice next year.

I’m in the dark a bit over GAMBA (2.10). She starts off over a mile, which isn’t a surprise. There’s a lot of stamina in the dam’s side  — she’s out of a Galileo mare.

We’ll give it a shot and her trainer Richard Hannon has plenty of first-time-out winners.

I won a maiden over 1m2f on FOUR WHITE SOCKS (3.20) at Goodwood and she didn’t run badly there last time. She’s back over a mile, which should suit, and she always works very well.

FAIRLIGHT (3.55) won a nothing race at Newmarket before battling well to follow up at Brighton where the track didn’t suit him. He goes there with an each-way shout.

I fancy TOMMY TAYLOR (4.30) in the 6f sprint.  He’s back to the same handicap rating as when he just got beaten in the big handicap at Newmarket last season before going to win a York Listed race.

Kevin Ryan has always rated him and I’m looking forward to riding.

EQUIMOU (5.05) was fourth in the Palace House  at the start of the season. Her last few runs have been disappointing but if she came back to anything like her early-season form she has to be very competitive.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to catch a glimpse of Enable at Kempton. Crystal Ocean has a fitness advantage but he has also got a penalty and we all want to see Enable back to defend her Arc crown.
