RETURN OF THE MACK

Brian Ellison on the hunt for Newmarket plunder with Lowther runner-up The Mackem Bullet

The two-year-filly just lost out in a desperate finish at York and will head to HQ in search of redemption

TRAINER Brian Ellison is hoping his brave filly The Mackem Bullet can make up for her York heartbreak at Newmarket.

The progressive two-year-old was nosed out of first prize in the Lowther and will bid for a reversal next month.

Following that much improved performance, where she was beaten by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Fairylandthe handicapper has raised her to a mark of 106 - and it's safe to say handicaps are now off the agenda.

Whether she'll be taking her chance in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes or the Group 1 Cheveley Park is still up for debate, but Ellison is excited to see just how good she could be.

He said: "She will go to Newmarket next. She'll either run in the Cheveley Park or the Rockfel over seven furlongs.

"She'll have to be supplemented wherever she goes but it will only come out of the prize-money from York.

"The handicapper has put her up to 106 now so we're dealing with a high-class filly.

"The phone hasn't stopped ringing - America, South Africa, they all want her - but her price trebled last week. I just wish I owned her!

"She's come out of the race great, which is the main thing."
