Newmarket races – tips, racecard, declarations and preview for the racing live on ITV4: Saturday August 18

There are some classy handicaps at Newmarket on Saturday and we've got all you need to know about the card

IT'S back to HQ on Saturday, and there are some competitive races to get your teeth stuck into.

Sun Racing gives you the lowdown on all the races, runners and tips for the meeting.

2

Race 1 - 2.10 Randox Health EBF Novice Stakes

Not much to go on in the opener, with three of the eight runners never having raced before.

Of those that have, the racecourse performances so far have been thoroughly unconvincing - except for KHAADEM.

Charlie Hills' two-year-old may have been beaten eleven lengths on debut, but that was by the super-talented Calyx.

There won't be anything of that calibre in this line-up, and although he'll certainly need to improve, there's no reason why he shouldn't.

It would be no surprise to see unraced Godolphin debutant Aquanura run well, and the same goes for Ed Dunlop's Mawsool.

Verdict - 1. Khaadem 2. Aquanura 3. Mawsool

Race 2 - 2.45 Randox Health Handicap

Jeff Smith looks to have another progressive sprinter on his hands in the shape of REBEL STREAK.

The three-year-old was impressive in a slightly weaker grade last time out at Leicester and this kind of contest looks well within his compass.

He'll need to improve again but that's possible, particularly as his trainer Andrew Balding is in such fantastic form.

Last-time-out winner Staxton is capable of a big run at a track he goes very well, while Spoof contested a Listed race last time and is better in this company.

Verdict - 1. Rebel Streak 2. Staxton 3. Spoof

Race 3 - 3.20 Randox Health Grey Horse Handicap

Always a spectacle, this handicap confined to grey horses can go the way of the consistent VINCENZO COCCOTTI.

The six-year-old has finished second on four of his last five starts, seeing his mark rise from 53 to 61.

However, good claimer Thore Hammer Hansen takes off a valuable 7lb and that will help ease the burden.

His one start at the track resulted in a neck third in this contest last year and he can rediscover the winning thread now.

Case Key won the race last year and could get his favoured soft conditions, while Time Medicean brought home the bacon easily at Brighton last time out.

Verdict - 1. Vincenzo Coccotti 2. Case Key 3. Time Medicean

Race 4 - 3.55 randox.com Fillies' Nursery Handicap

Quite a competitive little race and the one to appeal most is FORCETORECKON.

Tim Easterby's two-year-old was given a mark of 63 ahead of her handicap debut at Thirsk and was only narrowly run out of it.

This is much better race, but she gets plenty of weight from her rivals and Robert Dodsworth takes off a handy 7lb.

Star Terms is that the other end of the handicap and could be smart enough to live up to her opening mark. Amber Spark gets better with every run and Richard Fahey is in flying form.

Verdict - 1. Forcetoreckon 2. Star Terms 3. Amber Spark

AUSSIE AMBITION Torcedor sold to Germany in preparation for Melbourne Cup bid

Race 5 - 4.30 randoxhealth.com Handicap

Only seven runners in this and this looks a good opportunity for SLEEPING LION.

The three-year-old fell short of a hat-trick last time out but was held up too far off the pace in a muddling affair.

Granted better luck this time, he should be too progressive for these rivals.

Last year's November Handicap winner Saunter bounced back to form in France last time out and could put up some resistance.

Sofia's Rock is capable of bouncing back for trainer Mark Johnston.

Verdict - 1. Sleeping Lion 2. Saunter 3. Sofia's Rock

Race 6 - 5.05 Randox Handicap

ESKENDASH will likely take the beating in what is probably the weakest contest of the day.

Pam Sly's five-year-old bounced back to form at Ripon last time out when winning a handicap from a subsequent winner.

He should be able to defy a 6lb rise and get the better of Great Beyond, who is unexposed on handicap debut and has had a wind op.

Gododdin can fill out the places for Hugo Palmer.

Verdict - 1. Eskendash 2. Great Beyond 3. Gododdin

Race 7 - 5.35 Randox Food Handicap

PREVENT can do the business now after finishing second twice.

He is better judged on his runner-up spot at Ascot rather than his second at Salisbury last time out, and off a mark of 81 he is not handicapped out of things just yet.

He beat a subsequent winner over course and distance back in June and can go in once again.

Thechilden'strust looks a danger for Gary Moore, while Rastacap can go well for Mark Johnston.

Verdict - 1. Prevent 2. Great Beyond 3. Gododdin
